The Victoria Independent School District Board of Trustees gathered for their Regular Monthly School Board Meeting on April 25, 2024, where they prepared to accept the resignation of Dr. Quintin Shepherd, Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Shepherd will continue in his role until the conclusion of the 2023-24 school year to ensure a smooth operational leadership transition to the Interim Superintendent.

In a joint statement, both parties warmly expressed their deep gratitude for their collaborative efforts and the genuine respect they hold for one another.

The board of trustees wishes to convey heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Shepherd for his unwavering dedication, and remarkable achievements, and for paving the way for staff and students to discover their genius and find their ‘and.’ Dr. Shepherd, likewise, acknowledges the invaluable support from the board, staff, and community, recognizing their collective efforts in the district's success.

Recognizing the collaborative spirit behind the district's accomplishments, the board and Dr. Shepherd commend the community of stakeholders - teachers, principals, administrators, staff, students, parents, and patrons. They extend their best wishes to Dr. Shepherd in his future endeavors as the board initiates the search for a new superintendent to maintain continuity and excellence in district operations.

During the board meeting, the board appointed Deputy Superintendent Randy Meyer as Interim Superintendent. Mr. Meyer expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, reaffirming the district's commitment to student success and academic excellence.

"I am deeply honored to serve as the interim superintendent for VISD," said Meyer. "Our focus remains steadfast on serving every student and fostering an environment where each can achieve their full potential. I extend my gratitude to Dr. Shepherd for his leadership, and I am thankful to our Board of Trustees for entrusting me with this responsibility. I am humbled to work alongside our incredible VISD students and employees. Moving forward, I am committed to supporting the Board of Trustees in their search for a new superintendent, ensuring a smooth transition for the benefit of our entire community. My dedication lies in continuing to support the new superintendent and further advancing the mission of our district."

Meyer has informed the Board that, while he is grateful for the opportunity to serve as Interim Superintendent, he will not be applying for the permanent Superintendent position. He looks forward to resuming his role as Deputy Superintendent once a new Superintendent has been selected and eagerly anticipates collaborating with the new Superintendent to maintain and build upon the great strides VISD is making.
